Celebrity//Face:
My friend Nicola Deacon. She's a model.
Personality:
Nikki has been a dancer all her life, always full of energy and life. To passers by she can sometimes seem like a bit of a livewire but once you get to know her she's actually a really sensitive young woman. She tends to fall in with the more outgoing, confident types of people in school but she doesn't have a bitchy side...or at least, if she does she never lets it rear itself.
As much as she loves being out on the town enjoying herself and making new friends or dancing in front of a large audience, she likes to curl up with a chick flick and her dog Pippa just as much.
She's a very welcoming person when she meets someone new - she does her best to make them feel comfortable and is very easy to talk to. Because of the kind of friends she makes - usually the populars and preps etc - sometimes people misunderstand her and think she has ulterior motives but in general, she just wants to get to know people. Nicola's concentration span can last for hours and that's part of her OCD. She's had the disorder since she was small and always has to line things up straight, read whatever she's reading three times and brush her hair a certain number of times in a day. Just little everyday things become obsessive routines and no matter how much her parents tried to help her, the disorder never went away fully. She isn't as bad as she used to be but it's still part of her life.
Sometimes her OCD does help her though. It has made her a very successful dancer, figure skater and cheerleader (both high school and all star) and has kept her grades at a level her younger sister could never compete with.
Past:
Nicola was born and raised in Monroe County, Alabama, with one younger sister, Kerrie-Ann, and her parents, Kenny & Tammy. Her parents had always had a volatile relationship but it never really culminated in anything until Nicola was about 5 and Kerrie-Ann was 2.
To the outside world, the family seemed happy and secure but behind closed doors her mother was terrified of her father. Tammy became expert at covering bruises and putting on a brave face. Nicola watched and she learned too. She found it hard to let people see what she was really feeling all her life and even though Tammy tried to tell her it was alright to let people in, Nik learned from her mother's actions, rather than her words. Growing up, she'd spent night after night trying to block out the sounds of her mother pleading with her father to stop the beatings, before she'd hear the door slam and then silence. Even at 5 years old, she knew where her poppa was going - to drink himself into oblivion and return in the early hours of the morning so that even at breakfast the next morning, his children could smell the alcohol lingering on his breath.
Tammy eventually fought back, seeing what her submissive acceptance of Kenny's behaviour was doing to her children. She got a restraining order and gained full custody of Nicola and Kerrie-Ann before moving out of the state to give her girls a new life. But by that time Nik was already 13 and she'd seen too much to be able to start over like she'd had the American Dream childhood.
They struggled for a couple of years, living off wages from both Tammy and Nicola's small-time jobs in waitressing and the compensation they'd won in court and the child support Kenny had to pay. But then Tammy met someone new - William Peters. She didn't find out much about Will for quite a few months and he'd put it off every time she was due to go to his home. Tammy thought nothing of it.
However, when she did finally get to catch a glimpse of the Peters residence, it was like the whole world was turning around. It wasn't a house...it was a freaking mansion! And suddenly, the family didn't have to struggle any more, as William insisted they move in with him - after all, there was plenty of space considering he wasn't married and had no children. It seemed a waste to have such a huge home with no one in it half the time. Both Kerrie and Nicola had taken to William after awhile - they were still wary about father-figures, but it was like a fairytale to see their mother happy - something they'd hardly ever witnessed before.
But as much as she tries to put her childhood where it belongs - in the past - it still haunts Nik and she's terrified of getting into the kind of relationship her mother became trapped in the first time around. She longs, however, to find her own soul-mate, like Tammy found William.
She dreams of becoming a teacher specifically in dance for children or a lawyer. Or if all else fails, a children's psychologist.
